Does SEO Toolkit Work Outside Of The US?   February 22, 2012, 06:48 AM
I realise non-US members cannot use the keyword tool as it only gives US searches but what about the other tools in the seo kit?

I'm planning to open a store in Australia selling to Australia so would need to search the backlinks of Australian sites. Does Link Thief do this?

From personal experience, I don't find getting backlinks from like for like countries makes that much difference for ranking purposes.  I've always just set the country i'm targetting in the Google Webmaster tools. 

So, personally.. I would use the SEO toolkit for that purpose.

Hi Cat,

When your considering the link building phase, as long as the sites are relevant to your niche, then that's not issue for Google. You would possibly have a problem if your trying to get backlinks from a site that is a different language but if it's in English and it's relevant then it's a big thumbs up from Google.

I know search results differ from country to country, but in most cases it should not be a big difference in terms of search rankings from Aus to US.

Dave says it's good to get exactly the same backlinks as your competitors if possible and that is what Link Thief does which is part of the SEO Toolkit. It seem to be a great tool to instantly get a list of all of your competitors backlinks. I would like to know if Link Thief can also work to retrieve backlinks from Australian sites.

That's what I really want to know, sorry if i didn't explain myself well enough.  Smiley

Skip to about 5 minutes and you will see the current features of Link Thief. I think there are many sites out there in number one or top 3 that don't compete for your keyword. If you have a site that is niche specific and you start building high quality / relevant links to your store, then no doubt Google will start picking up on this, and hopefully start putting you in a much better position.

I don't really know if Google value a site that is Country specific or not. If it has the content and it's relevant then I am pretty sure that any site that the Link Thief picks up will be good enough to use.
